The Neighbourhood as Seen Through the Lens of Degrassi Junior High

The Degrassi television franchise takes it’s name from the leafy residential De Grassi Street in South Riverdale/Riverside. Degrassi Junior High , which aired between 1987 and 1989, is the second series where we are introduced to memorable characters like Spike, Joey and Wheels. It’s also a great look back at the Toronto of the late 1980s. While the school that the series was filmed at is located in Mimico, a lot of Degrassi Junior High was filmed here in the East End.
